I've been invited to a wedding in England twice and both times they offered to fly me there. I should add that they are close family friends and are filthy rich by most standards. The wedding was in a castle like in friends. I didn't go both times because of scheduling conflicts. I would not expect it just being invited is a nice gesture.

The answer would depend on how important you are to their wedding. If they really want you to be there, they'd build a portal machine and warp you there. If that isn't the case, then your level of devotion to the friendship is now measured in whether or not you're willing to fly yourself out.

As a date right? Your date should pay for plane, hotel, meals, and most importantly shopping expenses.
