I think it's like going to a restaurant and them saying the fork and knife are extra. And if you want a napkin, that's another dollar too please.... times are tough in the restaurant business, please understand.

yes, I think they are too expensive, but if you play devil's advocate. They need to recoup money and this has been profitable to an extent. I'd rather have them charge for baggage fees, then raise prices on the flights. You can always carry on and if there's no room, they will check it in for free. Pack lightly people!

if you're operating in the red, you need to cover your losses somehow. more weight = more fuel = more money. it typically gets passed on to the consumer.
