When I got married, someone wrote a check out for $143. That made us smile. Another person wrote a check for $499 to my wife and $1 to me --- that made us laugh. Whatever you give, make them laugh or smile.

Yikes. I can't believe someone didn't know about 143...that makes me feel old! I love that they gave you $1.00. I'm going to do that next time. Thanks for the tip! (oh, not the $1.00 for you but the....nevermind)

Any amount that you can afford is appreciated. Just don't give a post dated check, which I got when I got married. (Just didn't know whether to feel sorry or mad at the person.) Also, buying something from their registry will make the couple happy.

That is very generous gift. Money is usually the way I go. the couple can use it for anything they want and I don't have to go out shopping!

But for the person receiving, would it be on them to know how much the person giving it to you can afford?

Yeah! And so is $50! Whatever happened to "it's the thought that counts" and giving what one can afford and GRATITUDE? Geesh.
