For celebrities, this can be used for marketing. Celebs can endorse products by buying certain products and in return, companies would reimburse them because they see it as good marketing and gives more incentive for celebrities to publish out what they buy.
And people would want to following what celebrities buy. For example, say you really like Jay-Z and you aspire to become a world famous rapper just like him, wouldn't you be interested in knowing what book he buys(assuming he reads them) for inspiration? Or if you would like buff like Dwayne Johnson aka the rock, wouldn't you be interested in what he buys to keep in shape.
It also makes it easier to buy gifts an exercise equipment for someone if you knew that had purchased several exercising equipments in the past and it prevents you from buying an exercising equipment they have already brought.
