if you really think about it....it's already possible.
Let's say you are traveling to the Philippines right now by plane. It's 12:32 PM Friday right now...it takes lets say 13 hours to get there, so you'd techincally get there at 1:32 AM our time.
But when you land...it's actually 5:32 PM. You just time traveled 16 hours into the future!
We have such a primitive understanding of time. Albert Einstein said best..."People like us, who believe in physics, know that the distinction between past, present, and future is only a stubbornly persistent illusion."
It will happen when we start adding some sort of alloid to our biological structure so that we don't look like road kill after traveling through time. I'm kidding. Who cares. We're going to be dead. When does Battlestar Gallactica come back?
If time travel is defined as traveling through time at a different rate then the "normal" flow of the universe, then time travel is possible, but only in one direction. By traveling close to the speed of light or by traveling in a ridiculously high gravity field one can essentially jump into the future. That is, you can, in one subjective day move to any date in the future. However, it is not possible to ever move back.
1000 years ago, no one would ever believe that anything like a nuclear bomb or an airplane would be possible without magic. Time travel isn't imaginable to us now, but with time, I think we are capable of doing anything.
That's interesting, I'm more curious about what the reason is. Is it that when you travel to the past, you end up changing the present and thus cause time travel to not be invented yet?
Yeah. He had a pretty long segment on his show to explain that if time travel to the past was possible, we would have people from the future here right now.
The reason for the universal limit of the speed of light is to prevent easy time travel. This being said it is theoretically possible to achieve through worm holes and ripping space-time. Einstein supported this and was one of the leading minds in the field. Lets hope we never figure it out though.

HAH!
