i think education is important as a social yardstick. otherwise true intelligence and insight does not need any kind of paper diploma. anyone with good perception picks up education by just living.

Knowlegde is still power. Sorry that was pounded into my head! As long as you have access to Google then education is not needed.

Education is super inflated now. People with high school degrees should to be qualify for most jobs but now every employer expects all their employees to have Masters regardless of whether or not any of the their education gets applied to their work.

But it's still necessary for the average joe to stand out from non college average joe's.

A friend in school just told me tuition at SFSU went up 2 times in one year and now they only could priority register for 6 units, that's 2 classes only! SAD

Well that will certainly help deflating the value of the college degree. I think one of the problem with city and state colleges having a low tuition causes students to not care as much about getting poor grades since they can just retake the class. This is why people who attend expensive schools take it more seriously - they know that they can't afford the cost of having to retake the class.

I agree with Frisbee, but if you come from a poor background and do not have the luxuries of the upper class and are motivated to succeed, your senses will kick in and tell you to do well in your studies since "you alone" end up paying for it...

it's not what you know. it's who you know. that gets you places now-a-days.
