What's so wrong about it? Most companies allot X number of sick days, and if you don't use them, you'll lose them. Might as well get your money's worth.
But then you're not calling in sick but calling in for a vacation. But I guess you are right, in the end, you do get X number of sick days but I would argue that even though by law that's true, in reality, a lot of employers frowned upon that especially in blue collar jobs.
I try not to go to work sick, but sometimes I have to prove the point that I'm really sick. Sucks to be me cause last thing I want is to infect others. In my field of Accounting they have a hard time believing you. They don't give a rat's ass about your health especially at month/quarter/year end. They usually send me home (thank goodness) once they have visual proof (i.e. running nose, paleness).
If it's a possible H1N1 virus, I stay home for sure!!!!!
That sucks if you have to call in sick just to take a day off. If your sick days and PTO days are bunched in the same group, can't you just say to your boss, I'm taking a day off.
The problem nowadays (well at least for me), no one likes to do another person's workload. They fall off their own work schedule when someone drops the ball unexpectedly. There are also times during the month where it's critical you are present at the office. If you were to request one of them critical days off, they'll think you are insane for even considering taking the day off since you should have been fully aware of not to take it off in the first place.
Yeah I agree with you on that part but a lot of people don't realize how important efficiency is to a job. People tend to brag that they went to work 16 hours straight. But little do they realize that once you go over the typical 8-9 hour schedule, you lose effectiveness and you end up doing negative work. When you don't have full concentration, you tend to mess up a lot which will end up causing more work for your co-workers.
No matter how important your job is. If you accidentally sneezed on your paper, guess what? You'll be spending the rest of your day removing the snob off the piece of important document.
Once I called in sick to play golf. I got a $400 moving violation ticket on the way to the course. And I played a horrible round. Oh well I would definitely call in sick again.

That is so true...
"In my field of Accounting they have a hard time believing you."
I would imagine that it was the case for lawyers but for accountants? Do accountants lie a lot?
