I would say it depends on the type of friends and the neighborhoods that the movie theater is in.

In the sixth grade, in much "safer" or "uninformed" times, i would hang out unattended at the mall. I say if the group of kids is around four, and the parents are dropping off, picking up, and the theater is in a safe suburb, it is fine.
