I really feel sorry for smokers. Those who are alcoholics have it easier because you can hide it from people. But with smoking people can see you doing it. People actually see you at your worst. They see you getting *high* because that is what it is. They see you are hooked on them and can't do anything about it.
You seek comfort with other smokers. You hate going to the doctor because you hear it from them about your lungs. You cringe at the anti-smoking commercials. When the topic of smoking comes up you are silent because you know you have know defense.
And to answer the question here, smoking is nasty but it's not selfish IMHO. It's a showing of weakness and lack of self control. For the record, I am a smoker. I hate it. I am ashamed. Don't judge.
wow, and a bunch of thumbs ups. just to let u know, u're wrong, absolutely wrong. smokers are not murderers (and i hope this really doesn't take any explaining from me to figure this out). and just a friendly bit of advice, gross generalizations like that tend to make u ignorant, let alone when they're just flat out wrong. who the hell thumbed up this comment? did they think that calling people murderers is something that isn't serious as hell?
how does anyone vote yes on this? i agree smoking is nasty, but what makes it selfish? if a smoker is considerate w/their habit, i can't fathom how anyone could call it selfish? but that goes the same w/any habit anyone may have. with all actions, if u're not being considerate, then it'd be selfish - but that has nothing to do w/the habit itself.
